Khaled Family

“No other brother was in prison, but if one does something the whole family is punished. We have sold the greenhouses; we could not harvest the guavas in October. Now I work as a guard in a cement factory for $300 USD a month just enough to feed the family.”

Imad Khaled was detained for more than three years, from 1991 to 1994, during the First Intifada. This arrest was noted in his security file; in 2000 this prevented him from entering Israel for work. He was again detained for demonstrating against the wall in 2000.

Now, neither he nor his brothers are allowed to access the land on the other side of the wall: the permits are refused because of Imad Khaled’s detentions. Their elderly father was originally given a permit but it was not renewed after April 2006.
